THE PRACTICE
'AN ENDLESS CONTECTION TO CREATIVITY'
For over two decades, Guy Goodfellow’s intimate team of designers, architects, and draughtsmen have delivered beautiful, comfortable homes full of subtle connections. Our projects harness a respect for historical integrity, working sympathetically with the architectural heritage of a building, whilst imbuing a contemporary relevance and underplayed elegance.
Led by Guy Goodfellow, with Creative Director Steven Rodel at his right hand, the practice combines vivid imagination, precise historical knowledge and rigorous attention to detail; constructing a complete and settled look full of subtle connections. Our work speaks to each client’s personality and interests, encouraging their participation and self-expression to create something that feels naturally evolved over time. Guy actively invites clients to view the process as putting together a personal collection that layers periods and places, ‘I like to use the best of every decade, every decade has something uniquely special. It’s the mix and the blend.’ These layers create a tension between materials and textures that concocts an uncontrived and timeless interior not harnessed to a single period or style. Nothing in our designs is expected or prescriptive and, in the words of a great longstanding client – ‘their work is never, ever predictable’..
GUY GOODFELLOW
'Great spaces don't take themselves too seriously.'
Guy trained as an architect and gained invaluable early experience during a substantial tenure at Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler, where he was their youngest director. He went on to establish an interior design and architectural practice in 2002, working on a diverse collection of houses in England, Europe and the US including the restoration of a number of architecturally important homes. Guy has an effervescent passion for his work; evident in his whimsical approach, abundant humour, and the pleasure he takes in the contrasts of his designs – this passion is underpinned by a discrete sensitivity and gentle understanding of his clients’ lives.
A master of juxtapositions; Guy’s interest lie in combining quietly rich and eclectic fabrics and antiques with modern design, contemporary art, and bespoke craftsmanship. Always fascinated by the classical proportions of stately homes and historical accuracy, Guy is an able draughtsman; regularly explaining his ideas to the client by sketching as he talks – Illustrating his natural flair for scale, colour, and composition. His years of experience in combination with his classical background and fresh perspective mix to inform the design process and create a sense of trust that each project will be treated with the utmost care and conviction.
GUY's SKETCHES & EARLY WORK
The practice has many international accolades, including being a member of the House & Garden Top 100 since its inception and part of Country Life Top 100 best interior designers in Britain, and commissions include a broad spectrum of deeply personal individual residences across the globe. Guy, Steven, and the team’s wonderfully creative approach is rooted in a passionate interest in all elements of a project ‘not just the interior, but everything starting with the view from the main gate, the gate itself, the drive, the landscape; taking in absolutely everything’ This complete vision for the whole allows their work to tell an all-encompassing story with no details spared.
